After the success of last year’s workplace safari, we were delighted to welcome another group of Year 9 pupils from Hazel Wood High School in Bury to our Heywood facility.
Following a factory tour showing our manufacturing processes from start to finish, our team used their creativity to provide 5 interactive sessions, demonstrating some key principles from the industries we support:
- Performing precision activities inside a live, negative pressure isolator – in this case it was playing the classic board game Operation!
- Using pipettes in a Fume Cupboard, like a chemist would, without breaking the containment
- Weighing out sweets (in place of drugs) and recording, inside an isolator complete with gloves and sleeves
- The importance of correct manufacturing drawings and using initiative to solve a complex task – using Lego models with missing instructions and some incorrect parts
- Getting gowned up while learning about the importance of PPE in cleanrooms and drug manufacturing
Many thanks to Todd Payne, Reina Amano, Stephen Hewson and Daryl Lister for making it such a great experience and to our visitors for engaging with the activities.
